It was a great idea – build a stock photo website that featured New Zealand faces and Kiwi culture. But could the site be built to have completely automated processes, while remaining easy to maintain?
Pixipic came to us with an idea. Because stock photo models all tend to look the same, and don’t represent the unique blend of cultures that make up New Zealand, why not build a stock image library using Kiwi models? The idea was a good one, we just had to bring it to life.

What we did
We built a fully-fledged eCommerce site that handles all the orders made through the site automatically. We implemented marketing automation to maintain personalised contact with their database on an ongoing basis, and built the backend in such a way that it strips out many laboursome tasks of uploading imagery.
We also created an algorithm that reduced server resource requirements by 40%, enabling pictures to be downloaded on the fly.
Creative and Design
New Zealand and it’s people are unique, it was important PIXiPIC reflected that. So we developed a brand strategy for Pixipic that revolved around the celebration of New Zealand culture and landscape which was reflected in the photos. We designed the website to showcase that celebration of culture while still being intuitive to navigate and refreshing to look at.
We worked with PIXiPIC strategically and established them on Instagram as a way to gain traction with an audience who are interested in beautiful photography.
Stock imagery is a touch market with some very large established brands, so any lead generation we did had to be smart. We targeted specific keywords for SEO purposes and built the content of images automatically based on specific targeted keywords.
